Meeting via YouTube and fueled by a rare musical chemistry, songwriters Dan Frechette, guitar/vocals, and Laurel Thomsen, violin/vocals, prove that musical magic is not only possible, but alive and well.
In contrast with their natural musical rapport, the Alt-folk duo has struggled yet triumphed over incredible external adversity. Both powerful and magnetic talents, like any good story, theirs is filled with love and loss, bad guys and good guys, uncertainly and joy, and many, many performances over a relatively short time frame. Since they began touring in early 2013 they have circumnavigated the North American continent, performing over 200 concerts and festivals, including a 12 date Home Routes house concert tour of northern British Columbia/Alberta, Russ & Julie’s House Concert in LA, The Medicine Hat Folk Club in Medicine Hat Alberta, the Eastern Manitoba Concert Association (EMCA) series, and releasing two albums of their diverse and uplifting material.
With influences ranging from Folk, Classical, Old Time, and Celtic, to Gospel, Jazz, Vintage Country, Rock N’ Roll, Blues, and Bluegrass, Dan and Laurel flow seamlessly through genres, tempos, stories, and moods, embodying each and every style with virtuosic command. With exuberance, heartwarming harmonies, soundtrack ready violin and guitar lines, and stories of irony and triumph, wit and humor, delighted audience members speak of “falling in love” with music all over again.
